Planning a Trip to the United Kingdom
Beautiful Accommodation in the United Kingdom
Accommodation options in the United Kingdom are plentiful and you can find something to suit any budget.
Boutique hotels and small luxury accommodation abounds in the United Kingdom. There is no shortage of beautiful accommodation. Maybe staying in a historic country manor, or a modern, boutique hotel or a quaint bed and breakfast. And don’t forget you can find plenty of apartments and homes for rent as well on both Booking.com and AirBnB.

Transportation: Getting Around While in the United Kingdom
In large cities in the United Kingdom you can probably get by using public transport or taxis (Uber operates in the UK).
For travel between cities the United Kingdom has an extensive bus and train network. The train can be very expensive though so it pays to plan ahead. Tickets are usually cheaper the earlier you purchase.
Even in rural areas that are quite touristy, for example the Lake District, you may be able to get by using the bus. It is easier than finding parking, can be more affordable than renting a car and saves you the hassle of driving on the left if you are not used to it.
For Car Rental in the United Kingdom
Car rental is usually quite affordable in the United Kingdom and one-way, drop fees are usually quite affordable within the UK, i.e. driving London to Edinburgh. However, fuel can be quite expensive compared to what you may be used to at home.
Many rental cars are manual, so just double check if you need an automatic.
Taking a car to Ireland can be quite expensive as there are usually additional fees. You need to inquire about these costs and inform the rental car company you will be taking the car to Ireland.
For car rental in the United Kingdom we use and recommend Holiday Autos. The price quoted includes all taxes and fees and it also searches local providers. Download our rental car checklist to compare your quote. Keep in mind extra drivers, one way charges and manual vs. automatic if applicable.
Flights to/from the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is well serviced by low cost airlines. Keep in mind some of the low cost airlines use secondary airports and the cost and/or travel time to get to the airport can be substantial.
Low cost carriers also assume carry-on luggage only in the airfare quoted and checking baggage can be more than the airfare!
