If you are looking for beautiful accommodation in Crete offering the chance for complete relaxation and beachfront access, The Theodore Boutique Hotel near Chania is the perfect choice for you.

The Theodore Boutique Hotel

One of my favorite hotels from our recent travels, The Theodore Boutique Hotel achieves an ambiance perfect for its beachfront location.

Arriving at The Theodore Boutique Hotel, it doesn’t look like much from the outside, it is somewhat unassuming and doesn’t give any clues as to what awaits in your room. The street in front of the hotel is busy, and when we arrived my first thought was oh-no, this will be noisy.

Thank goodness, that first impression was soooo wrong. You can’t hear a sound from the street once you are in your room. The rooms face the ocean, and all you hear is the relaxing sounds of the sea.

Each detail, the color scheme, the lighting, the scents in the room, the breezy fabrics for the curtains, and even the books in the room combine to create an atmosphere of calm and well-being. This hotel achieves being a relaxing oasis, despite its location in a busy area, which offers plenty of restaurants and shopping options right at the front door.

The rooms face the beach, and across the crystal clear blue waters, you see the hotel’s namesake, the island of Thodorou, a sacred island sanctuary closed to visitors. Chairs, umbrellas and towels await you at the beach.

The Rooms at The Theodore Boutique Hotel

The Theodore Boutique Hotel - Perfect Relaxation in Crete www.compassandfork.comEach of the nine rooms are individually decorated and named, offering a unique stay. Our room, Perspective, on the first floor with a balcony facing the sea, featured a king bed and a walk-in shower. Perfect for two. Rooms on the second floor have balconies, while rooms on the ground floor provide walk out access to the beachfront relaxation area.

Each room has a selection of books. Our room had books featuring Crete in literature, books about Cretan cuisine (including recipes), and a selection of self-reflection topics. The hotel’s signature book recommendation, Wake up to the Joy of You, is a lovely book of “52 meditations and practices for a calmer, healthier, mindful life.” Featuring a weekly meditation to guide you through a year long journey of self-discovery, the book perfectly complements the nightly Theo-sophy™ Turn Down Service.

Each night’s turn down service delivers a handmade chocolate and a card left on your pillow. The Theo-sophy™: Love + Wisdom card contains a ritual. The ritual is an activity which offers you the opportunity to interrupt your regular routine and reflect. Each card contains a quote for inspiration and brief instructions. If I have you intrigued, you’ll love the Theodore Boutique Hotel and you’ll just have to stay here to learn more.

The lighting in The Theodore Boutique Hotel rooms is some of the best I have seen, and helps create the mood. Depending on the activity you can adjust the lighting. There is beautiful lighting in the recessed alcoves containing classy, Cretan pottery and statues. Or if you need more light, overhead lights and bedside lamps facilitate reading. There is no TV!

Dining at The Theodore Boutique Hotel

Breakfast at the hotel is a special treat, served in a beautiful setting facing the sea (or indoors if you wish). The menu features three courses (yes, at breakfast!) and daily specials. Featuring fresh local produce and showcasing traditional Crete cuisine with a modern flair, you can order as much or as little as you would like.

The fresh juice was fantastic and the coffee was the best we found on Crete. The chef, Petros, was very friendly. He is from Crete and very proud of the local cuisine. We took the opportunity to get some other dining recommendation from Petros for the rest of our trip. (We also received a great tip for a restaurant back home in Melbourne, where his friend from Crete runs a Greek restaurant near our house. Small world!)

In addition, the bar serves snacks and drinks throughout the day and evening. Beachfront, restaurant, bar or in your room dining is available.

A chilled bottle of wine and a share platter of Cretan dishes greeted us upon arrival. There is a refrigerator in the room and complimentary bottled water is available in your room and at the beach.

Location of The Theodore Boutique Hotel

The Theodore Boutique Hotel is located in Agia Marina, 4.2 miles (7 kilometers) from Chania along the  coastal road. The area is well-developed with hotels, restaurants and shops lining the street.

You can easily walk out the front door and find anything you might need. It is a short drive or an easy taxi or bus trip to Chania. An ancient city, inhabited for over 6000 years, Chania’s Venetian Harbor is beautiful.

The Egyptian lighthouse is its best-known landmark, and the quaint stone alleyways, waterfront restaurants and bars make a great place to explore. Or you can just relax on the beach at the Theodore.

The waters at the hotel are calm, very inviting for a swim. The beautiful, sandy beach is long and flat. Perfect for long leisurely walks early in the morning or at sunset.
